Schönes und vollständiges Exemplar des seltenen Werkes über indische Pflanzen.

Erste Ausgabe. Exemplaren einer kleinen Auflage, die vermutlich unter 200 liegt. Dier hier verwendeten Tafeln stammen von Wights Werk Icones Plantarum Indiae Orientalis (1838-1853), welches keinen großen kommerziellen Erfolg gebracht hatte und dessen Tafeln zudem noch unkoloriert waren. Für die Spicilegium Neilgherrense hatte Wight, der u. a. Direktor des Botanischen Gartens in Madras in Indien war, sie handkolorieren lassen. - Die Numerierung ist etwas irreführend, denn die Tafeln zählen bis 202. Allerdings sind die Tafeln 74 und 75 nie gedruckt worden, die 7 gefalteten Tafeln wurden doppelt numeriert und es gibt 3 "bis-Tafeln" (42/1, 67/2 und 67/3). Dadurch beträgt die Gesamtzahl 196, wie in dem voliegenden.

EINBAND: Dunkelgrüne Halblederbände des 20. Jhs. mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel. 28 : 22 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 196 kolorierten lithographierten Tafeln (7 gefaltetet) von Dumpgy nach Zeichnungen verschiedener indischer Künstler. - KOLLATION: 1 Bl., IX, 85 S.; 2 Bll., 94 S. - ZUSTAND: 14 Tafeln zu Beginn mit wohl vom Verlag korrigierten Numerierungen, 1 Faltafel mit ausgebessertem Randeinriß. Insges. sehr schönes und sauberes Exemplar.

First edition. 1 of less than 200 copies, many of which are found in a sorry state. The plates used for this work come from Wight's Icones Plantarum Indiae Orientalis (publ. Madras, 1838-1853), which was not a commercial success, and in which the plates were uncolored. Wight had them specially handcolored for this edition. The plates are numbered to 202, but nos. 74 and 75 were never issued, the 7 folding plates (each counted as one plate, but each numbered as 2 plates) bring the total down to 193, but the 3 extra plates ("bis plates": 42/1, 67/2 and 67/3) give a final total of 196. - With 196 handcol. lithogr. plates (7 folding) by Dumphy after drawings by various Indian artists. 20th cent. half morocco with gilt lettering on spine. - 14 plates with new numbering, presumably corrected by the pubkisher, 1 folding plate with repaired longer marginal tear. Altogether exceptionally fine copy.
