Well-preserved copy of the rare large octave edition. With 1 engr. portrait after Chodowiecki, 1copper plate, 5 folding additions and several woodcuts in the text. Contemp. marbled half calf with 2 lbels in colors and some gilt spine. Comprises those 40 vols. of works prepared by Goethe himself as well as the following 20 vols of posthumous works. The portrait of Goethe, engr. after Chodowiecki in vol. LVI, presumably originates from the separately supplied series of engravings from the last Goethe edition published at the artist's lifetime (cf. Hagen 24d). - Mostly stainless, well-preserved and complete copy from the large octave edition.
