Die erste lateinische Bibelausgabe mit der Glossa ordinaria, dem wichtigsten exegetischen Kommentar des Mittelalters. Prächtiger, großformatiger Druck von Adolf Rusch.

Das gewaltige, selten komplett vorkommende Druckwerk wurde von Adolf Rusch mit vier verschiedenen, von Johann Amerbach in Basel ausgelieferten Typen für Anton Koberger in Nürnberg hergestellt. Buchwesens, Bd. 23 (1982), Sp. 684-88. - "GW dates shortly after 23 Sept. 1481 but manuscript notes in the Sion College copy and in Oates 124 are dated 1480. The quire signatures, in multiple sequences of the first seven letters of the alphabet, are perhaps early press figures (BMC). Groß-Folio. 48 : 33 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Illuminiert mit 16 Prachtinitialen in Gold, Silber und Farben (2 mit einem menschlichen Gesicht) sowie mit zahlreichen eingemalten Lombarden in Rot und Blau. - KOLLATION: Bd. III: 65 Bll. und 34 Bll. (zus. 99 Bll. von 252). - Bd. IV: 228 Bll. (vollständig). - ZUSTAND: Äußere Stege tls. gering wasserrandig, vereinz. gering fleckig; letzte Lage gelöst, erste Lage gelockert. Beide Deckel gelöst, fleckig, tls. berieben und mit Läsuren im Bezug, Rücken beschädigt. Innen sonst gutes und dekorativ illuminiertes Exemplar auf kräftigem Papier.

First edition of the Latin Bible with the Glossa Ordinaria, the chief exegetical commentary of the Middle Ages. Vol. IV (of 5) and beginning and end of vol. III. Together in 1 volume. Comprises a section of the Old Testament with Wisdom of Solomon, Song of Songs, the Major and Minor Prophets and Maccabees. Illuminated with 16 fine initials in gold, silver and colors (2 of which with human face), as well as numerous painted lombards in red and blue. Contemp. blindtooled pigskin over wooden boards. 228 leaves (vol. IV) and 99 leaves (vol. III, of 252). - Some slight waterstaining to outer margins, here and there minor staining; last quire detached, first quire loosened. Both boards detached, stained, partly rubbed and with defective spots to covers, spine damaged. Inside otherwise a good and decoratively illuminated copy on strong paper.
