1 von 100 numerierten Exemplaren auf kräftigem unbeschnittenen Bütten, im Druckvermerk vom Künstler signiert. - Druck der Radierungen durch Maurice Potin, unter Aufsicht von Vollard. - "Illustrations for La Fontaine's Fables had been commissioned in 1927, and the choice of a foreign Russian artist as the illustrator of one of the most revered French texts provoked some remark: Vollard was obliged to reply to criticism in the art columns of L'Intransigeant on 14 January 1929 (a review edited by Tériade and Maurice Raynal) that the fables, being part of the oral tradition of Asia Minor, might gain in being interpreted by an artist from the East."
