Das grundlegende Lehrbuch für die scholastische Zoologie, in dem Aristoteles mehr als 500 Tierarten beschreibt. Schöner venezianischer Antiqua-Druck mit zahlreichen schwarzgrundigen figürlichen Holzschnitt-Initialen.

Vierte Ausgabe der lateinischen Übersetzung von Theodorus Gaza, erschien erstmals 1477. - "He presented a general outline of a animal kingdom; described the different part of animals; included descriptions of internal organs, repoduction and life of man, and the character and habits of the animal world .. Aristotle believed in an evolutionary theory which, while it differed from modern concepts, contained the essential features of evolution as a process in nature" (Sparrow S. 1).

Two fine and scarce editions of Aristotle in one volume. 16th cent. limp vellum (inner hinges loosened). I: Fourth edition of Theodorus Gaza's translation of Aristotle's zoological works. With numerous white-on-black historiated and decorative woodcut initials and woodcut printer's device at end. - Partly slight waterstaining and with few wormtraces (more towards end), title with faint brownstain and 2 small backed defective spots, some contemp. marginalia. - II: Very rare Scotus-edition, Index Aureliensis recorded only 1 copy. With 2 woodcut printer's devices and several fig. woodcut initials. - 4 leaves misbound. First 8 leaves with mildew stains in upper corner, first third with old backed trace of cutting in the gutter (few printed notes covered).
