Die Radiertechnik erlaubte es ihm, "to draw every line of the illustration exactly as he wished it to print, without the necessity of another hand to cut the printing surface. In botanical terms, autographic portrayal of plants by the author obviously implied greater understanding and authority" (Bridson/Wendel). - Stellenw. etw. wasserrandig, Titel mit wenigen kl. Wurmspuren, vord. Vorsatzbl. erneuert, hint. Innengelenk nahezu gelöst. Rücken mit kl. Fehlstelle. Gutes Exemplar aus der bedeutenden Kräuterbuch-Sammlung des Mediziners F. W. T. Hunger (geb. 1874).

Nissen 386. - Hunt 165. - Mortimer 130. - Wellcome 1550. - Adams C 2394. - Edit 16, CNCE 12822. - Schmid, Kräuterbücher S. 108. - Bridson/Wendel, Printmaking in the Service of Botany 7.

Contemp. flex. vellum with ms. title on spine. - Partly some waterstaining, title with few small wormtraces, front endpapers renewed, rear inner hinge nearly detached, spine with small defective spot. Good copy from the collection F. W. T. Hunger.
